"Seeing Talent Beyond the Resume"

Presented by DeRon Talley

DeRon Talley, Marketing & Media Manager for the Louisiana Small Business Development Center (LSBDC) State Office and Co-Founder OF Journey 4 Success

DeRon Talley considers himself to just be a messenger who likes to serve. And for the most part that has been his adult story. He currently serves as the Marketing & Media Manager for the Louisiana Small Business Development Center (LSBDC) State Office.

DeRon, a 2012 Graduate of the University of Louisiana Monroe, has served as the Editor of the Donaldsonville Chief and Gonzales Weekly Citizen newspapers concurrently, where he and his editorial team earned more than a dozen Louisiana Press Association awards, with DeRon carrying the bulk of nine individual awards. DeRon was the youngest and first black male to serve as the Editor of both papers, being a role model for aspiring minority journalists.

In 2017, DeRon participated and graduated the Leadership Ouachita 2017 Class and was presented with the Charles McDonald “Twice as Much” award.

DeRon and his wife, Patience, also founded and own Journey 4 Success, which is a non-profit organization that helps young adults and teens develop life skills, inform them of opportunities, and empower their minds for a confident self. DeRon and Patience are also the proud parents of one daughter, Demi Lee.

In all, Talley’s personal goal is to make a difference in the local community and in the world at-large.

Topic: Seeing Talent Beyond the Resume

Description: Are you starting to think resumés are a waste of time? You get outstanding resumés from less than mediocre professionals and there’s no way you could have known before you interviewed them and hired them. Social media is your way to get a sneak peek into your new-hires personality, work habits, and expectations and I’m going to show you how. Using social media will not only allow you to weed out bad candidates beyond the resume, but it can also direct you to the best candidate who has not even applied!
